As temperatures rose toward 90 degrees on Labor Day Monday afternoon, Katonah volunteers were dispatched at about 1:40 PM to a townhouse complex on Croton Lake Road for a reported attic fire. Cars 2213 and 2212 were first to respond. Upon arrival, Car 2212 confirmed an attic fire and requested a 10-75, bringing in mutual aid units from Bedford Hills and Mount Kisco FDs. Meanwhile, Car 2211, Engine 116, Ladder 39, and Engine 115 also responded and arrived on scene. Car 2211 assumed command, with Car 2212 taking on operations and Car 2213 taking on Interior Operations. Engine 116's crew pulled a pre-connected inch-and-three quarter hose line and advanced into the structure for an interior attack. Ladder 39 extended its aerial to the roof, and other arriving KFD and mutual aid personnel placed ground ladders on the front and back of the structure for better access. The fire was soon knocked down, and personnel then checked the adjoining townhouse units for possible extension. The Town of Bedford Building Inspector was called to the scene, along with the Cause and Origin Team. While the occupants of the townhouse were unable to return to their home, there were no injuries. KFD units finally picked up and left the scene at about 3:30 PM.
