November 9, 2024

Late Friday, into early Saturday morning, KFD volunteers were dispatched to a brush fire on Cantitoe Street. A downed power line, combined with dry conditions, resulted in a roughly 20X20 brush fire in a shallow valley on Cantitoe Street. Engine 117, Tanker 6, Utility 8 and Cars 2211, 2212, and 2213 responded. Bedford HIlls FD Car 2034, Mini Attack 9 and Tanker 5 were also called to the scene to assist. Upon arrival, volunteers extended hoselines and waited while NYSEG workers killed power to the downed line. Once that was done, volunteers went into the scene, using forestry hose, inch and three quarter hose, deck guns, chainsaws and forestry rakes to knock down the fire and ensure there were no hotspots. The call came in at about 11:20 and volunteers were on the scene until 1:30 AM. KFD extends its thanks to Bedford Hills FD for its assist.

Units: Car 2211, Car 2212, Car 2213, Engine 117, Tanker 6, Utility 8, Bedford Hills FD Car 2034, Mini Attack 9 and Tanker 5
