At abut 9 AM Monday, Katonah Fire Department volunteers were dispatched to a reported truck fire on the Exit 6 off ramp, Engine 116 and Tanker 6 responded, along with Car 2212. Rescue 17, having just cleared from getting someone out of a stuck elevator at the Katonah Metro North train station, also responded. The construction debris in the dump truck had ignited, and the driver had pulled to the side of the road. Engine 116 arrived and deployed a preconnected hose line to dampen down the fire. Because the fire was so deep inside the debris, it was decided to wet down the load as much as possible, and then Tanker 6 would escort the dump truck to its destination in Bedford Hills, where the load could be dumped and fully extinguished Bedford Hills Fire Department was notified and had apparatus on standby at the destination to assist. KFD also wished to acknowledge the assistance of the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department Engine 38, as they were driving by the scene and stopped to render assistance.
