Junior Corps Drills on Hoseline Stretching

November 23, 2015

Quickly stretching a pre-connected hose line so that it can be used immediately upon encountering a fire is a key skill that can be the difference between gaining the upper hand on the fire or losing control of it. KFD's Junior Corps recently drilled on quickly and efficiently removing a pre-connected hose from the Tanker truck, flaking, or stretching it out so that it would not kink, and then, after the line was charged, entering the training tower and stretching the line to the third floor, where a simulated fire was located. It takes a lot of coordination, communication, and teamwork for three or four firefighters, in full gear and SCBA, to accomplish extending upwards of 200 feet of charged inch-and-three-quarter line from the truck to the fire.
