By Ex Chief Dean W. Pappas
July 6, 2021

At about 6 PM Tuesday evening, as severe thunderstorms were rolling through the area, Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a circuit breaker box in the garage of a house on Lyon Ridge Road that had caught fire. Car 2213, Car 2212, Car 2211, Engine 116, Ladder 39 and Tanker 6 all responded. Car 2213 arrived first on scene and described a smoke condition visible from outside the house. Engine 116 dropped 700 feet of five inch supply line and took up station in the driveway at the garage where the electrical panel was located. An inch and three quarter preconnected hose line was stretched. Ladder 39 came in and set up its aerial to the second floor of the structure. Meanwhile, Mount Kisco Fire Department's FAST team, along with Tanker 5 and Car 2032 from Bedford Hills Fire Department, were also dispatched to the scene. Firefighters used chain saws to cut through the exterior wall of the house near the electrical service, which had already been turned off, and cut away portions of the wall to make sure that fire had not extended to the home's upper floor. Similar cuts were made in the garage ceiling, and inside the house on the second floor. Fortunately, the fire was contained to the electrical panel and the wires going into and out of it. NYSEG arrived on scene to check on the power situations. There were no injuries and the home's occupants were safe. Katonah units operated at the scene until about 7:30. We wish to thank Bedford Hills FD, Mount Kisco FD, and Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps for their assistance at this fire.
